Christmas tree (wellhead valves)
Company / operator legend practice (API 6A, API 521, API 537) / PIP PIC001 (API 6A)
Drawn as
A vertical stack of valves on the wellhead: lower and upper master valves, a cross with a production wing valve (actuated) and a kill wing to the side, a swab valve and tree cap on top, and a choke on the production wing outlet.
Meaning
Surface christmas tree on a well. The upper master (SSV) and production wing valves are usually actuated and tripped by the wellhead control panel. Becomes christmas-tree; the wing outlet line goes to the manifold through the choke.
Variants
- Each valve may carry its tag (LMV, UMV/SSV, PWV, KWV, SV)
- The SCSSV downhole is drawn as a valve in the tubing below the wellhead
- Annulus valves (A/B annulus) appear on the wellhead below the tree
