Meaning
A function in the basic process control system (BPCS/DCS) shown on operator screens: indication, control, alarms. Software, not hardware on the plot. A PIC-101 in the DCS implies a field PT-101.
Variants
- No bar = a field-mounted shared display (e.g. a local HMI)
- Dashed bar = DCS function the operator cannot see
- ISA 5.1-2009 redefined circle-in-square as the BPCS whatever the hardware
