Ball valve, encircled style
ISO 10628-2 (group 21, valves) / PIP PIC001
Drawn as
A circle large enough to enclose the bow-tie, so it reads as a circle with an X in it, usually between two flange bars on the line.
Meaning
Ball valve in legends that draw the ball as a full circle around the bow-tie (common on European and NORSOK-style drawings). Becomes ball-valve; a filled bow-tie or NC beside it means normally closed.
Variants
- Check the sheet legend: a few legends use the encircled X for a general or special valve
- Look-alike: a circle with an X on an electrical or lighting drawing is a lamp, not a valve
