Globe valve P&ID symbol

Globe valve

ISO 10628-2 (group 21, valves) / PIP PIC001
Drawn as
Bow-tie with a solid black dot where the triangle tips meet.
Meaning
Manual throttling valve: regulating flow, control-valve bypasses, and vents and drains that are opened slowly. A globe body with an actuator on top is a control valve (see act-diaphragm).
Variants
  • Some legends draw the dot as a small filled circle with a stem and handwheel
  • Bypass globe valves around a control valve are normally closed: the body or dot may be filled
  • Look-alikes: open circle = ball valve, small rectangle = plug valve
