Heat exchanger (general)

ISO 10628-2 (groups 3-5, heat exchangers, furnaces, cooling towers) / PIP PIC001 / TEMA (X8079)

Drawn as

A circle with a zig-zag line passing through it (one fluid) and pipe stubs on the circle (the other fluid).

Meaning

Any heat exchanger, drawn generically (common on PFDs and simplified P&IDs). Usually a shell-and-tube unit, so map it to shell-and-tube-exchanger unless the title, tag or datasheet says plate, air-cooled or hairpin.

Variants

ISO 10628-2 also uses it for "condenser"
Some legends draw two concentric circles or a circle with a horizontal coil
