Meaning

The valve is closed in normal operation: drains, bypasses, crossovers, spare connections. Read the body type from the legend; the fill only means closed. Set the valve normally closed in the model.

Variants

Some legends fill only the inner part, or write NC beside an open bow-tie
Filled globe, ball or plug valves keep their centre mark
A few old legends use filled bodies for check valves instead, so check the legend
