Meaning

Quarter-turn valve with a tapered or cylindrical plug, often lubricated. Used for isolation in sandy or dirty service and on wellhead / manifold duties.

Variants

Some legends fill the rectangle
Multi-port plug valves are drawn with three or four triangles (see the 3-way valve)
Look-alikes: open circle = ball valve, filled dot = globe valve
