Vibration element / transmitter on a machine
ISA 5.1-2009/2022 (primary element symbols) / PIP PIC001 / API 670
Drawn as
A VE (or VT) bubble joined by a short line to a small square or dot on the outline of a motor, pump, compressor or bearing. Often in pairs (A / B or X / Y), one per bearing or per axis, with VI / VA / VSHH functions downstream.
Meaning
Machinery vibration sensor: proximity probes (shaft) or accelerometers (casing) on the bearings, wired to a proximitor junction box and a protection rack. V as the first letter is vibration in ISA 5.1. Becomes vibration-probe on each monitored bearing; set pair for X-Y probes.
Variants
- Some legends draw only the bubble beside the machine with a note such as NOTE / TYP. for every bearing
- VXE / VYE mark the X and Y probes of a pair; ZE on a machine is an axial position (thrust) probe and also becomes vibration-probe
- Look-alike: V on a valve tag (XV, HV) is a valve, not vibration; check the first letter
