Cooling tower (induced draft, counterflow)

Onshore mechanical-draft counterflow cooling tower in a row of cells: concrete cold-water basin with outlet sump, FRP-clad casing on a column frame, louvred air inlets on the long sides, fan deck with handrails, velocity-recovery fan stacks, axial fans on right-angle gearboxes driven through a drive shaft by motors outside the stacks, vibration switches and oil-level lines, hot-water riser and distribution header with a valve per cell, make-up and overflow, and caged ladders with a rest platform. Fans spin while running.

Installation

$npx -y https://decktwin.com/cli/deck-twin-0.2.2.tgz add cooling-tower

Copies thermal/cooling-tower.tsx and the shared lib/ into src/components/deck-twin/. Needs three, @react-three/fiber and @react-three/drei. See installation for the manual route.

Usage

import { Canvas } from '@react-three/fiber'
import { OrbitControls } from '@react-three/drei'
import { Stage } from './components/deck-twin/lib/stage'
import { CoolingTower } from './components/deck-twin/thermal/cooling-tower'

export default function Scene() {
  return (
    <Canvas shadows camera={{ position: [8, 5, 9], fov: 35 }}>
      <Stage>
        <CoolingTower />
      </Stage>
      <OrbitControls makeDefault />
    </Canvas>
  )
}

P&ID

P&ID symbol for cooling-tower

A box (or tapering hyperbolic outline for natural draft) with a fan stack on top (propeller in a short cylinder), the hot-water distribution near the top, crossed lines for the fill, air inlets low on the sides and the cold-water basin at the bottom.

tag CTtag EISO 10628-2 / PIP PIC001

The fan on top plus fill and basin tell it from an air-cooled exchanger (tube bundle, no water basin). Onshore only.

For agents

Machine-readable entry with props, ranges, defaults and ports:

$npx -y https://decktwin.com/cli/deck-twin-0.2.2.tgz info cooling-tower

Or fetch /r/cooling-tower.json, or copy a ready-made instruction:

Add the Deck Twin "Cooling tower (induced draft, counterflow)" component to this project. Run `npx -y https://decktwin.com/cli/deck-twin-0.2.2.tgz add cooling-tower` (it copies the file and the shared lib into src/components/deck-twin/), then `npx -y https://decktwin.com/cli/deck-twin-0.2.2.tgz info cooling-tower` for its props, ranges and ports. Render <CoolingTower /> inside a React Three Fiber <Canvas shadows>, wrapped in <Stage> from src/components/deck-twin/lib/stage. Set props from my data (metres, NPS in inches, ASME class) and leave the rest at defaults. Install three, @react-three/fiber, @react-three/drei and @types/three if they're missing.
